MEET S. S. COULTER Hello, my friends.I'm S. S. Coulter — author, joy coach, and host of the Let There Be Joy podcast — helping children and adults bring more imagination, presence, and real-world connection into a tech-influenced world. I write The Fassa Tails — a seven-book series for kids ages 4 to 10 — and God's Dad Jokes, a family-friendly collection of Bible puns and Christian humor. Every story is built to do one thing: pull kids off screens and back into imagination, character, and play. I didn't start out in children's books. I spent years as a communications consultant in corporate America, head down, laptop everywhere — even on vacation. I kept asking myself, "Is this really what God put me here to do?" The answer came when I became an instant mom to three incredible kids overnight. Everything I thought I knew about my career, my purpose, and my life shifted in a single afternoon. |
THE FIVE-MINUTE MOMENT
The afternoon that changed everything.
A few weeks into being a new mom, I told the kids to go outside and play. Five minutes later, they were back at the door staring at me.
"Miss Shannon, we don't know what to do."
It hit me like a ton of bricks: their imagination muscles were atrophying. Screens had completely hijacked their ability to just be kids.
I went looking for help. Pinterest gave me complicated crafts and "perfect mom" energy I couldn't replicate. The children's books I found were dumbed down and underchallenging. So I built what I needed instead.
I teamed up with retired teachers to design a database of simple, screen-lite activities organized around three pillars — Heart, Mind, and Body — because it takes all three to grow a full person. Then I wrote The Fassa Tails to give kids a playground for their minds.
Today, my goal is the same as it was that afternoon: to help families raise bold, confident kids — and stop being the Imagination Station to do it.
